Case 5

Paulina from Sweden

Refugees come from Iran to Forshaga in Värmland. The children soon have Swedish friends.

But one day the news comes: "Two of the families won't be allowed to live in Sweden!".

– Since this happened, I haven't been the same any more. When I go to sleep I imagine that my Iranian friend Sharma is lying beside me. Then I say, "How lovely it is that you're here!". I have cried a lot over the way they treat Sharma and the way those who make the decisions treat us children", says Paulina.

The children in Forshaga don't accept the adults' decision. They organize a school strike and go to Stockholm to protest to the Government.

– At first I thought I should forbid them to strike. But when I saw how agreed and decided they all were, I decided instead to let them use the school's loudspeakers and telephones. I felt that it was right that we adults should listen to them, says Paulina's headmaster.
